I really like indian clothes like salwar kameez but I feel shy to wear them in public?

Tags: , , , ,

Hi I am a girl (15 years old) who lives in the USA….I really like indian clothes and jewelry (bangles and things like that)

Sometimes I see indian women in traditional clothes shopping in the mall with their families…I would really like to buy and wear salwar kameez but I feel like indian people would think I am strange for wearing it, because I am not indian.

Do you think so? Please answer :)

My husband and I recently agreed to rent a home that my in-laws own. We were there for two weeks before we left to go on a one month long vacation. My mother-in-law said that she’d drop by to do a bit of tidying up, which I didn’t mind, but I thought that was the extent of it. When we arrived home, my kitchen was rearranged, all of our clothes had been washed and folded for us (neither of which were that much of a problem, and she probably went to a great effort), but she said that she had taken my jewelry and my daughter’s jewelry to her house for safe keeping. i wouldn’t worry about it too much. a lot of things have been adopted from other cultures, it just take someone to start it off. also that would be like being worried of eating pizza because you are not italian. usually, people are quite flattered when you take a serious interest in their culture or therefore dressing habits.

No they won’t. They’ll actually think you are open minded for wanting to share in their culture. Only the d!ck headed ones will think you are strange. You’d be surprised how much of western wear that people wear every day is influenced by Indian styles. e.g. "pyjama" is an indian word which is a slack, baggy pants which the English adopted and used to sleep in.

no one will feel awkward or strange in this case… people love when they see that their culture in expanding people adore their culture this gives a good feeling to both the people.. to the one who is trying the new culture and the another one whose culture is being tried in the manner they used to…. :)
